Terms of Use
Last updated: May 23, 2026
Welcome to City Seekers, a service operated by City Seekers. By creating an account or playing a hunt, you agree to these terms. They are written plainly on purpose — read them, email us if anything is unclear.
Two sections deserve careful reading. "Assumption of risk" describes the real-world hazards of playing a scavenger hunt outdoors. "Release and indemnification" is the legal effect of accepting that risk. Before your first hunt the app will ask you to acknowledge that you have read and accepted these terms; if we ever update them materially, we'll ask again.
Who may use the site
City Seekers is a 13+ game for people living in the United States. You must live in the United States and be at least 13 years old to create an account or to play. We ask for your date of birth and U.S.-residency attestation at sign-up to confirm it — accounts that don't meet those eligibility rules are not created. No one under 13 plays on their own. If a child under 13 takes part, it is only as a companion in parent-led play: a parent or legal guardian is the account holder, is present, and is leading the hunt while the child plays along. If you are between 13 and 17, you may only play with your parent's or guardian's permission. You're responsible for providing accurate information when you register.
Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for all activity under your account. If you think someone else has access, change your password and email us. We may suspend or delete accounts that show signs of abuse, impersonation, or automated play.
Play at your own risk
Hunts happen in real public places — streets, parks, transit stops, plazas. You are solely responsible for your own safety. Watch for traffic, weather, crowds, and posted closures. Follow all local laws, respect private property, and do not trespass. If a stop seems unsafe or inaccessible, back out — do not push through. Email us and we'll reroute the hunt.
Assumption of risk
City Seekers is an outdoor activity in real public spaces. By creating an account and starting a hunt, you acknowledge and voluntarily accept that the activity carries risks — some that we can foresee and disclose here, and some that we cannot. Those risks include, without limitation:
- Traffic and vehicles. Stops are reached on foot, often via sidewalks, crossings, and shared streets. You are responsible for obeying signals, watching for cars, bikes, scooters, and other moving hazards, and not crossing against the light no matter what the in-game arrow suggests.
- Uneven terrain and weather. Curbs, stairs, loose pavement, ice, snow, heat, rain, and wind are all part of being outside in a real city. Choose appropriate footwear and clothing, and use your own judgement about whether conditions are safe to play.
- Distracted-walking risk from phone use. Holding a phone, watching the AR compass, or composing a photo challenge all reduce situational awareness. Look up frequently. Stop walking before reading a long clue or hint. Do not look at the screen while crossing a street.
- GPS, network, and battery imperfection. The Global Positioning System is not surveying-grade. Urban canyons, weather, dead batteries, and lost signal can put the arrow off by tens of feet or freeze your progress. Never rely on the app for navigation in any safety-critical situation.
- Other people, animals, and wildlife. Crowds, strangers, pets, wild animals at parks and trailheads, insects, and allergens are all things that exist where hunts take place. You accept the risks of being around them.
- Property and third-party premises. Hunts may guide you near (but never onto) private property, businesses, construction zones, or restricted areas. Respect closures and signage. We do not control or warrant the safety of any third-party premises near a stop.
- Children and supervised minors. If you are playing with a child, you are the adult responsible for that child's safety at every moment — choosing the route, deciding when to back out, and keeping the child away from traffic and other hazards. The age requirements and parental-consent rules below are not a substitute for active supervision.
You agree that you understand these risks, that you are physically and mentally capable of safely participating, and that you are voluntarily choosing to play in spite of them.
Release and indemnification
To the fullest extent allowed by law, you, on behalf of yourself and any minor for whom you are the parent or legal guardian, release City Seekers and its operators, employees, contractors, and agents from any and all claims, demands, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or in connection with your use of the site or participation in any hunt, including claims for personal injury, illness, emotional distress, property damage, or loss. This release applies whether the claim is based on negligence, breach of warranty, breach of contract, or any other legal theory, except where prohibited by applicable law.
You also agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless City Seekers and its operators from any third-party claim arising out of (a) your conduct during a hunt, (b) your violation of these terms, (c) your violation of any law or the rights of another, or (d) your uploaded photos or other user content.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so portions of the release and indemnification above may not apply to you. The remaining provisions still apply to the maximum extent allowed.
Age requirement and parental consent
This is a 13+ game, and the rule is firm: no one under 13 plays City Seekers on their own. A child under 13 may take part only as a companion in parent-led play — the parent or legal guardian is the account holder, is physically present, and is leading the hunt while the child plays along, never independently and never alone. At sign-up, an adult whose account an under-13 will play alongside checks the parental-consent box; this stamps a timestamp on the account as the adult's record of consent. The supervising adult remains responsible for the child's safety, conduct, and compliance with these terms at all times. Players aged 13–17 may play only with a parent's or guardian's permission.
United States availability
City Seekers accounts are currently available only to people living in the United States. The App Store and Google Play listings should be limited to the United States, and the web sign-up flow requires a U.S.-residency attestation before an account is created. We may expand to other countries later, but until then you may not create an account if you do not live in the U.S.
Acknowledgment required to play
Before you start any hunt for the first time, the app will show you a brief acknowledgment screen summarizing the risks above and asking you to confirm that you have read and accepted these terms. Your acknowledgment is recorded with a timestamp and the version of these terms in effect at that moment, so that we both have a clear record. If we make material changes to these terms, your next hunt-start will ask you to acknowledge the updated version. Until you do, hunts will not start.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Cheat by spoofing GPS, scripting progress, or sharing solutions in ways meant to defeat the puzzle.
- Scrape or bulk-download clues, hints, reveals, or uploaded photos.
- Harass other players, post abusive content in a photo challenge, or impersonate anyone.
- Probe, attack, or attempt to bypass the site's security.
- Use the site for commercial resale, paid tours, or advertising without written permission.
Photos and user content
Photos you upload for a stop's photo challenge remain yours. By uploading, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display the photo on the live board and within the hunt experience, and to retain it for as long as your account exists. You represent that your photos do not contain content that is unlawful, infringing, or harmful. We may remove photos at any time, especially if they violate these terms.
Hunt content and availability
Hunt content may change or be taken down at any time. Real-world locations close, murals get painted over, stops get reconfigured, and routes get adjusted. We do not guarantee that any hunt will be available at any particular time, and we are not liable if a stop you are aiming for no longer matches the clue.
Purchases, refunds, and cancellations
City Seekers sells two kinds of products through Stripe Checkout: one-time hunt purchases (per-hunt and bundles) and the All Access monthly subscription. The policy below applies to both.
One-time hunt purchases
- Refundable within 7 days of purchase, only if the hunt has not yet been started. "Started" means at least one stop in the hunt has been marked visited on your account — even if it was a misclick or a brief test. Once you've begun playing the content, the purchase is non-refundable.
- If you bought a hunt and discover a stop is genuinely inaccessible (closed venue, construction, an error on our end the support team confirms), email strangelove@treasureamongus.com and we'll refund or credit the purchase regardless of whether the hunt was started. We'd rather make it right than argue.
All Access subscription
All Access is a recurring subscription. It costs $9.99 per month and automatically renews each month until you cancel — your payment method is charged $9.99 at the start of each billing period, on the same day each month, with no separate renewal notice.
- You can cancel any time through the Manage Subscription button on your profile, which opens the Stripe Customer Portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep your All Access until then.
- We do not prorate or refund mid-period subscription charges. If you cancel one day after a renewal, you keep paid access through the rest of that month and we charge nothing further.
- If a renewal was charged in error (e.g., you cancelled but the portal failed to record it before the next billing date), email us — we'll fix it.
Disputes and chargebacks
Please email us before filing a chargeback. We can almost always resolve a refund in minutes via Stripe; chargebacks add weeks of friction for both of us and may result in temporary account suspension while the dispute is in flight. Outright fraud (a card you didn't authorize being used) is the exception — file the chargeback and email us so we can revoke the entitlements on the account in question.
No warranty
The site is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. GPS accuracy varies by device, weather, and urban canyon effects; do not rely on the game for anything safety-critical.
Limitation of liability
In addition to the release in "Release and indemnification" above, and to the fullest extent allowed by law, City Seekers and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site — including injury, property damage, lost data, or lost time. Where direct damages cannot be excluded under applicable law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from your use of the site is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid to City Seekers in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction is to stop using the site.
Termination
You may delete your account at any time by emailing us. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. On termination, your account and hunt progress are deleted; photos you uploaded are removed from the live board.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute not resolved by email will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Denver County, Colorado.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site evolves. Material changes will be noted by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of the page and by incrementing the internal terms version. When that happens, your next hunt-start will surface an acknowledgment prompt for the updated terms before play resumes — your accepted version is recorded on your account so we both have a clear audit trail. Continued use of the site after a non-material change (typos, formatting, contact-address updates) means you accept the updated terms without a fresh prompt.
